International Children Book Day

International Children's Book Day is celebrated every year on April 2nd. This date coincides with the birthday of the renowned Danish author Hans Christian Andersen.

The purpose of this day is to inspire a love of reading in children and to bring attention to the importance of children's books.

Here's how it is often celebrated:

 * Reading Events: Schools, libraries, and community centers often organize special reading sessions, storytelling events, and book-related activities for children.

 * Meeting Authors and Illustrators: Sometimes, children get the chance to meet and interact with their favorite authors and illustrators.

 * Book Awards: Announcements of children's book awards might be part of the celebrations.

 * Writing and Illustration Competitions: To encourage creativity, writing and illustration contests for children are frequently held.

 * Promoting Diverse Books: There's often an emphasis on showcasing a wide range of children's literature from different cultures and perspectives.

 * Sharing Favorite Stories: Children are encouraged to share their favorite books with each other.

 * Creating Bookmarks and other Crafts: Engaging in book-themed crafts can be a fun way to celebrate.

Each year, a different national section of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) sponsors International Children's Book Day. They choose a theme and invite an author from their country to write a message for children around the world, and a well-known illustrator to design a poster. For 2025, the sponsor is IBBY Netherlands, with the theme "The freedom of imagination".

So, on April 2nd, 2025, people around the world will be celebrating the joy of children's books and encouraging young readers!
